India's practice sessions for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against Australia have been closed to fans after a disruptive event during the team’s training in Adelaide. Fans, who were initially allowed to watch the training, became a source of distraction with rude comments directed at the players. The situation worsened during India’s session, where over 3000 fans gathered, overwhelming the practice facility. This caused a chaotic environment with players like Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant being harassed to hit sixes, while others were body-shamed and bombarded with loud requests.
A senior BCCI official confirmed that the comments made by fans were rude and insensitive, disturbing the players’ focus. The behavior led to the cancellation of a similar fan event in Sydney. The disruption during practice included fans using loud social media live streams, further disturbing the players as they focused on their game. In response to this, the BCCI has decided to cancel future open practice sessions for the team, including during the ongoing series. This decision aims to maintain the players' focus and prevent further disruptions.
The second Test in Adelaide is a day-night match, and the BCCI has taken this step to ensure the Indian team remains undistracted in the lead-up to the important match. The decision comes as India continues its preparations in the series, with matches scheduled in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney, following this Test.
