As 2025 approaches, India has already begun shaping its foreign policy for the year. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is set to travel to the United States to meet officials from both the outgoing Biden administration and the incoming Trump team, ahead of the U.S. power transition. Jaishankar is expected to discuss the Quad Summit, where U.S. President Donald Trump may attend, and potentially seek an early date for Trump’s visit to India.

In addition to the Quad Summit, India will host several major summits, including the BRICS summit in Brazil in July, the SCO summit in China, and a possible meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping as tensions at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) seem to ease. A visit from Russian President Vladimir Putin is also expected for the India-Russia annual summit.

India’s calendar is filled with visits from global leaders, including Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto Djojohadikusumo, who will attend India’s Republic Day celebrations. Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font is also expected to visit, along with Prime Minister Modi’s planned visits to France and Japan.

The G20 summit in South Africa and the ASEAN summit in Malaysia will also be key events, where PM Modi may travel to represent India. India’s foreign relations are poised for continued growth in 2025, with strategic meetings and summits with global leaders shaping the country's international position.
