RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has recently issued a notice to 51 of its doctors, including senior residents, house staff, interns, and professors, for allegedly promoting a culture of intimidation that threatens the democratic atmosphere of the institution. The notice, signed by the hospital's principal, demands that these doctors appear before an enquiry committee on September 11 to prove their innocence. Until then, their access to the hospital campus is restricted and their participation in college activities is prohibited.

This notice comes in the wake of significant unrest at RG Kar Medical College following the tragic death of a postgraduate trainee doctor on August 9. The victim, who was reportedly raped and murdered while on duty, has sparked nationwide outrage and protests. The tragic incident has led to ongoing demonstrations by junior doctors in West Bengal, who have been staging a 'cease work' protest to demand justice for the deceased medic.

Despite the Supreme Court's directions for the junior doctors to resume their duties by 5 pm on Tuesday, the protests have continued, reflecting the deep-seated anger and demand for justice among the medical community. The situation at RG Kar Hospital remains tense as the institution grapples with both the fallout from the tragic incident and the internal disciplinary actions now underway.
