As the vibrant Onam celebrations unfold in Kerala, the state-run Kerala State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO) has reported a staggering ₹818.21 crore in liquor sales over the festival's 12-day period. This figure surpasses last year's sales of ₹809.25 crore, underscoring the central role that spirits play in marking one of the state's most cherished festivals.

The peak sales day, Uthradam—preceding Thiruvonam—saw remarkable activity at BEVCO outlets, particularly in the Kollam district. The Asramam outlet achieved the highest sales of ₹115.41 lakh, dethroning the traditionally dominant Chalakudy outlet, which fell to third place with ₹104.48 lakh. Not far behind, the Karunagappally outlet recorded sales of ₹115.03 lakh, securing the second position.

While this year's overall sales were impressive, the sales on Uthradam day showed a slight decline, dropping from ₹715.97 crore in 2023 to ₹704.06 crore this year. The closures of liquor shops on Thiruvonam day typically lead to a pre-festival rush as patrons stock up.

Additionally, cumulative sales figures from September 6 to 17 highlighted the popularity of specific outlets, with the Tirur outlet in Malappuram district leading at over ₹5.59 crore, followed by Karunagappally and the Powerhouse Road outlet in Thiruvananthapuram.

This surge in sales during Onam has provided a significant revenue boost for the state-owned KSBC, which ensured its warehouses were well-stocked to meet the festive demand. Looking ahead, preparations for the upcoming Christmas season will soon commence as the corporation anticipates continued strong sales.
