Andhra Pradesh is still recovering from the devastating floods that recently impacted Vijayawada and surrounding areas. The state government has proactively completed relief operations and provided post-crisis fiscal support. However, just days after this natural disaster, weather reports indicate that another cyclone is in development.

The Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) is currently active along the South Bay of Bengal, particularly affecting the eastern arm of the Indian Ocean. This is the second occurrence of the MJO affecting the region following the Vijayawada floods, settling into its 3rd and 4th phases.

Forecasts suggest that from October 14 to 19, southern Andhra Pradesh may experience extreme rainfall, exceeding 25 cms in certain areas, particularly in the Nellore, Tirupati, and Coastal Prakasam districts, thanks to MJO support.

Additionally, the Rayalaseema region is expected to see excessive rainfall in the coming days as a low-pressure cyclone develops. Residents and officials alike are hopeful that this weather event will not escalate to the severity experienced during the recent floods in Vijayawada.
