The Andhra Pradesh government has officially renamed the government medical college in Machilipatnam to Sri Pingali Venkayya Government Medical College. This decision, announced on Monday by Health Special Chief Secretary MT Krishna Babu, has been warmly received by the residents of Machilipatnam and freedom fighters across the state.

The renaming serves as a tribute to Pingali Venkayya, who is celebrated for his significant contributions to both the state and the nation. As a revered freedom fighter and the designer of the Indian national flag, Venkayya's legacy resonates deeply with the people of Machilipatnam, fulfilling their long-standing aspiration to honor him in this manner.

Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan and members of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena expressed their satisfaction with the government's decision, highlighting it as a recognition of Venkayya’s invaluable services to India.

Notably, in 1916, Venkayya published a book titled Bharata Desaniki Oka Jaatiya Patakam (A National Flag for India), which presented 30 potential designs for the Indian flag, further solidifying his place in India's history.

The renaming of the college marks a significant step in acknowledging the contributions of prominent figures in the freedom struggle and reflects the government's commitment to honoring its historical icons.
