In a heartbreaking incident in Hyderabad's Banjara Hills area, a 33-year-old woman named Reshma Begum has died following severe food poisoning linked to momos purchased from a street vendor. Reshma, along with her two daughters aged 12 and 14, began experiencing symptoms such as diarrhea, stomach pain, and vomiting after consuming the street food on Friday. While her daughters are currently receiving medical treatment, Reshma succumbed to her illness on Sunday morning.
The local police received a complaint from Reshma's family and initiated an investigation, which revealed alarming details about the vendor's operations. It was discovered that the street vendor was running their stall without a food safety license and was preparing food in unsanitary conditions. The investigation noted that the dough used for the momos was stored improperly in a broken refrigerator, raising significant health concerns.
In response to the incident, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's food safety department has become involved, and two individuals operating the vendor stall have been detained. A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been filed as authorities seek to address the serious lapses in food safety that contributed to this tragic outcome. Samples from the food vendor have been sent for laboratory analysis to determine the exact cause of the poisoning.
