A royal clash erupted at the Udaipur Palace on Monday evening, stemming from a long-standing dispute within the Mewar royal family regarding the management of royal palaces and temples. The conflict escalated when Vishvraj Singh, the newly crowned Maharana of Mewar, was denied entry into the palace by the trust managed by his uncle, Shreeji Arvind Singh Mewar, and cousin, Dr. Lakshya Raj Singh. This denial led to a confrontation, resulting in three injuries and heightened security at the palace.

The palace trust had earlier issued notices warning against unauthorized access to the royal properties, which include the Dhuni Mata temple and Ekling Shiv Temple, both managed by the family trust. These temples are vital to the royal family, with Vishvraj Singh seeking to visit them after his symbolic coronation as the 77th Maharana of Mewar. However, the trust’s notice specifically pointed out that Vishvraj Singh is not a trustee and does not hold any legal rights to the trust’s management, thus barring him from entering.

The royal conflict has its roots in historical disputes over control of the Mewar family properties. Bhagwat Singh, the 75th Maharana, had designated his younger son, Arvind Singh, as the trustee of the family’s assets, excluding his elder son, Mahendra Singh. After Mahendra Singh’s death, Vishvraj Singh, his son, was ceremoniously crowned the new Maharana, but the trust’s management remained in the hands of Arvind Singh, leading to the present dispute.

On the day of the clash, Vishvraj Singh and his supporters attempted to break through the barricades erected by the authorities to access the temples, resulting in a violent altercation. While the palace trust accused Vishvraj Singh of attempting "criminal trespass," he insisted that his only aim was to seek blessings from the family deity and that personal property disputes should not interfere with royal traditions.

In response to the escalating situation, the state government appointed a receiver to take control of the route leading to the Dhuni Mata temple, hoping to resolve the dispute and allow Vishvraj Singh access to the temple. The situation remains tense, with both sides awaiting further developments.
