- Sonia Gandhi, Mahesh Jethmalani, UAPA case
Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani has demanded a police case against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi over her association with the Forum of Democratic Leaders - Asia Pacific (FDL-AP), which allegedly supports the secession of Jammu and Kashmir from India. Jethmalani argues that by co-presiding over the forum, which is funded by George Soros’ foundation, Sonia Gandhi is linked to a platform that advocates for Kashmir's independence, a stance he deems criminal under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
In an interview with NDTV, Jethmalani emphasized that Sonia Gandhi has not distanced herself from the forum, making her criminally liable. He has called for immediate action, stating that promoting secessionism is a grave offense under the UAPA, and urged the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to register a case.
The BJP has intensified its allegations this week, suggesting that Sonia Gandhi and other senior Congress figures are collaborating with billionaire investor George Soros to destabilize India, citing the Forum's stance on Kashmir. The issue came to light recently, and Jethmalani insists that the matter be investigated thoroughly.
The Forum of Democratic Leaders – Asia Pacific has been accused of publicly supporting Kashmir’s independence, which Jethmalani says makes it a serious matter of national integrity. He also mentioned past corruption cases involving the Gandhi family but emphasized that this issue is far more significant in terms of national security.
