- Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh, India Women’s Cricket
India's stand-in captain, Smriti Mandhana, made history with her brilliant performance against the West Indies at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Mandhana scored a match-winning 77 runs off 47 balls, marking her 30th fifty in T20 internationals. This remarkable achievement broke the long-standing record held by New Zealand’s Suzie Bates, who had scored 29 fifties. Mandhana’s milestone makes her the first woman cricketer to score 30 fifties in T20 internationals, cementing her place in cricket history.
Mandhana, along with Richa Ghosh, helped India set a huge target of 218 runs, posting a record-breaking score of 217/4, the highest for India in Women’s T20Is. While Mandhana contributed 77 runs with 13 boundaries and a six, Ghosh dazzled with an explosive 18-ball 50, equaling the record for the fastest half-century in Women’s T20Is. Ghosh’s partnership with Mandhana led India to victory as they clinched the three-match T20I series 2-1, defeating the West Indies by 60 runs.
Despite a valiant effort by Chinelle Henry, who scored a quick 43 runs off 16 balls, the West Indies were never a serious threat to India’s big target, finishing at 157/9 in their 20 overs. India’s bowling attack was led by Radha Yadav, who took 4 wickets for 29 runs. With this victory, India wrapped up the series 2-1, and the two teams will now move on to the next challenge, a three-match ODI series in Vadodara, starting Sunday.
