A Bangladesh court on Thursday rejected the bail plea of Chinmoy Krishna Das, a prominent Hindu monk and spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jote. Das, who previously served as a leader in the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), was arrested on charges of sedition and other offenses. The Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Saiful Islam denied the bail request following a 30-minute hearing, which was held with heightened security. The bail petition argued that Das, who suffers from multiple health issues, was arrested on fabricated charges.

The rejection of the bail has drawn international attention, with Radha Raman Das, Vice President of ISKCON Kolkata, expressing concern over the outcome. He described the situation as "sad" and urged the Bangladesh government to ensure that justice is served. His arrest stems from allegations that he raised a saffron flag above the Bangladesh national flag in Chittagong on October 25, a move that allegedly led to charges of sedition.

Das's arrest triggered protests and violent clashes between his followers and law enforcement, particularly outside the Chattogram Court Building on November 27, where a lawyer was killed. His previous bail hearings had faced delays and threats against his legal team. The latest court decision has sparked further unrest, as many had hoped for his release in the new year, with the case drawing significant attention both in Bangladesh and internationally.
