Gunfire Erupts After Snowball Hits Car, Leaving 12-Year-Old Injured in Hartford

12-Year-Old Shot After Throwing Snowball at Car in Hartford, Connecticut
A 12-year-old child was shot after throwing a snowball at a passing car in Hartford, Connecticut, on the evening of January 24, 2025. According to Hartford Police, the child and an 11-year-old friend were engaged in a snowball fight when one of the snowballs hit a vehicle. The driver of the car then reportedly looped around the block to chase the children and fired multiple rounds at them.

Police Lieutenant Aaron Boisvert shared details at a press conference, saying that the vehicle targeted the children and opened fire. While the 12-year-old was struck and injured, their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The 11-year-old, fortunately, was not injured during the shooting.

The police are actively investigating the incident, seeking to locate the vehicle and determine the number of individuals involved. While the police have not made any arrests yet, they are reviewing surveillance footage from the area to gather more information.

Lieutenant Boisvert expressed relief that the outcome was not more tragic, stating, "It could have been a lot worse." The child who was shot was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for treatment, but there have been no further updates on their condition.

The community and authorities are understandably shaken by the incident, with many concerned about the extreme escalation of what began as a harmless snowball fight. The police investigation continues as they try to identify the individuals involved and understand what led to this violent outburst.

This incident has raised broader concerns about public safety and the potential for disproportionate responses to minor conflicts.
