- NarendraModi, VladimirPutin, BRICSSummit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the BRICS Summit in Kazan today, where he reiterated India's stance on resolving conflicts through peaceful dialogue, specifically referencing the ongoing Russia-Ukraine issue. The leaders exchanged warm greetings, including a hug, highlighting their friendly relations.
During their discussion, PM Modi commended the BRICS grouping's achievements and noted the interest of many other nations in joining. He stated, "We have been in touch with all sides in the Russia-Ukraine problem. It has always been our position that all conflict can be solved with dialogue. We believe there should be peaceful solutions to conflicts. India is always ready to help bring peace."
The summit is set to conclude with the 'Kazan Declaration,' which will officially welcome five new members into the BRICS coalition. This visit marks PM Modi's second trip to Russia this year, following his attendance at the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit in Moscow in July, where he was awarded Russia's highest civilian honor, the Order of St Andrew the Apostle.
Highlighting the depth of India-Russia relations, President Putin remarked on their "special and privileged strategic partnership," which continues to grow actively. Modi's visit also underscores India's position as a major customer of Russian oil, a move that has drawn criticism from Western nations supporting Ukraine. India has maintained its commitment to securing oil at favorable prices for its citizens, demonstrating a pragmatic approach to international relations.
