- BJP, Congress, EVM, Maharashtra elections
The BJP has sharply criticized Congress for its repeated claims about faulty electronic voting machines (EVMs) following its losses in the Haryana and Maharashtra elections. The Congress party has often alleged that EVMs are tampered with to favor the BJP, but the BJP responded by pointing out that the same technology had delivered victories for Congress in Jharkhand and Priyanka Gandhi's Wayanad bypoll. In a pointed post on X (formerly Twitter), the BJP mocked Congress for blaming the machines when they lose, while accepting victories when they win.
The controversy erupted again after Congress held an anti-EVM protest following its expected but unfulfilled victory in Haryana. Despite their claims, the Election Commission of India condemned these allegations, calling them baseless and warning against making unfounded complaints. The debate on EVM integrity has been a recurring issue after major elections in India, with the opposition frequently accusing the BJP of manipulating the machines.
