  • Storm Eowyn, UK and Ireland weather, Red weather warning

The United Kingdom and Ireland are preparing for what could be one of the deadliest storms in recent history. Storm Eowyn is rapidly intensifying, and the Met Office has issued a Status Red weather warning for both regions. The storm is expected to bring severe weather conditions, including winds exceeding 130 km/h, torrential rain, and even snow in certain areas. The multi-hazard event is anticipated to cause widespread destruction, affecting both Ireland and the UK.

Storm Eowyn is set to make landfall in Ireland at 2 am (GMT) on Friday and will move towards the UK by the morning. Educational institutions, including schools and colleges, have been closed in Ireland and Northern Ireland due to the severe weather. Millions of residents have received emergency alerts, and authorities are predicting the storm will cause the most damage in Northern Ireland. As a result, transport systems, including bus, train, and flight services, have been suspended to ensure public safety.

The Irish weather department, Met Eireann, has issued warnings regarding possible electricity disruptions due to the storm. Power outages are expected across Ireland, and the public has been advised to keep mobile phones fully charged. The National Emergency Co-ordination Group has urged citizens to stay indoors under red-level warnings and limit travel under orange warnings due to the extreme risk of fallen trees, dangerous travel conditions, and potential power outages. Authorities are advising everyone to prepare for the worst as the storm approaches.
