The ongoing controversy surrounding Andhra Pradesh's capital city continues as YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's government persists with the contentious plan to establish Visakhapatnam as the executive capital. This move came immediately after Reddy's administration took office in 2019 and has faced significant opposition and legal challenges. The original idea to decentralize governance by having three capitals was met with strong resistance from various regions, especially from Vizag, and has led to a substantial political setback for the YSR Congress party (YSRCP).

The recent assembly elections highlighted the backlash against the three capitals formula, with the YSRCP suffering a severe defeat, particularly in the Uttarandhra region, including Vizag. Despite the central government's support for the development of Amaravati as the sole capital and the ambitious plans proposed by Chandrababu Naidu to create a world-class capital, YSRCP leaders seem reluctant to abandon their earlier plans.

In a recent press interaction, MLC Botsa Satyanarayana revealed that YSRCP still supports Vizag as the executive capital, although he acknowledged that the party is open to reviewing and potentially revising its stance. Satyanarayana's comments suggest that the party has not fully grasped the electoral damage caused by their capital shift proposal, and the debate over Andhra Pradesh's capital city remains unresolved.
