In recent months, HYDRAA, the Hyderabad Disaster Response Authority established by Revanth Reddy, has become a focal point in Telangana politics. The agency gained significant attention after demolishing Nagarjuna’s N Convention in Hitech City for encroaching on Tammidikunta lake. This action highlighted HYDRAA’s commitment to tackling illegal constructions that impinge on natural water bodies in Hyderabad.

The spotlight now shifts to the Fatima Owaisi Women’s College in Bandlaguda, run by MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi. Accusations suggest that the college, which provides education to economically weaker sections, may have been built on encroached lake land. Amidst social media discussions about whether HYDRAA will address this issue, Owaisi has expressed his distress. In a dramatic plea, he requested Revanth Reddy to avoid demolishing the college, emphasizing the importance of the institution to the local community.

While HYDRAA has primarily targeted non-essential and leisure-related establishments, the potential move against an educational facility poses a new challenge. The agency has yet to take action against such institutions, and it remains to be seen how it will respond to the plea from Akbaruddin Owaisi, balancing regulatory enforcement with the impact on community services.
