Kollam Gangireddy, a controversial figure associated with the YSR Congress Party (YCP), is reportedly on the verge of joining the BJP. Gangireddy, who has faced serious allegations including involvement in the 2003 Alipiri Bomb Blast and numerous red sandalwood smuggling cases, is said to be seeking refuge in the BJP as he navigates mounting legal challenges. His arrival in Vijayawada and impending meeting with AP BJP chief Purandeshwari has fueled speculation about his motives.

Recently, Gangireddy was interrogated by the AP Police over a land grab issue involving a cinema theater. Madanapalle SP Vidyasagar Naidu questioned him on Monday night, leading to a warning about potential consequences if similar actions were repeated. The timing of his legal troubles and his sudden move to join the BJP have raised doubts about whether he sees the party as a sanctuary from his legal and political issues.

Gangireddy’s past is marked by a 2015 incarceration under the TDP government for land grabbing and smuggling accusations. However, he was released on bail shortly after the YCP came to power in 2019. As he prepares to join the BJP, questions are emerging about whether this move is strategically aimed at distancing himself from ongoing legal scrutiny and securing political protection.
