In recent days, Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh has faced unprecedented flooding, resulting in extensive damage and leaving many residents stranded. Torrential rains led to the overflow of the Budameru rivulet, submerging low-lying areas and causing significant disruption to public life. The Andhra Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, swiftly initiated a comprehensive rescue operation to mitigate the damage and provide essential aid to affected residents.

As rainfall continued, the Budameru canal posed a severe threat to the city, leading to multiple breaches that exacerbated the flooding. The government, with the support of the Indian Army, tackled the critical task of repairing the canal breaches. By Saturday afternoon, the third and most challenging breach was successfully plugged using a robust two-layer strategy involving Gabion baskets. This achievement, following the repair of earlier breaches, has significantly improved the situation and is aiding in the city’s recovery.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Irrigation Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu have been actively involved in overseeing the relief efforts and canal repairs. Their dedication, along with the swift response from the government and the Indian Army, has brought relief to the flood-hit city. With the immediate threat of further flooding addressed, Vijayawada is on the path to recovery, and residents can look forward to returning to normalcy.
