  • YS Jagan passport extension, AP High Court verdict

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who lost his diplomatic passport following recent election results, faced a significant legal hurdle in securing a new passport. Initially, his request for a 5-year regular passport was denied by the Vijayawada special court, which issued a passport valid for just one year. Displeased with this decision, Jagan canceled his planned trip to London and chose to challenge the court's ruling at the AP High Court.

In a recent development, the AP High Court delivered a favorable verdict for Jagan, granting him the 5-year passport extension he sought. Despite this positive outcome, the court imposed a condition requiring Jagan to submit a surety of Rs 20,000 at the Vijayawada court to complete the process. Although Jagan's legal team argued for an exemption from this requirement, the High Court maintained the condition.

As a result, Jagan must comply with the court's stipulation and personally visit the Vijayawada court to submit the necessary surety before his passport can be officially renewed.
