A long-standing rivalry between former BJP MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion and Independent MLA Umesh Kumar turned violent on Sunday in Roorkee, Uttarakhand. The two politicians, known for their frequent social media protests against one another, engaged in a dangerous exchange of gunfire and stone-throwing at each other’s offices. The incident occurred in broad daylight, with Champion and his supporters firing shots at Kumar's office, followed by Kumar’s retaliation with shots fired at Champion's office.

Both politicians were arrested after filing complaints against each other. Champion accused Kumar of attacking his mansion the previous night, leading to his reaction. Kumar, on the other hand, claimed that Champion had abused him and his family on social media. The police have since taken steps to recommend the cancellation of their weapon licenses and are re-evaluating their security arrangements.

This violent confrontation raises serious concerns about the behavior of elected representatives, as both politicians resorted to unlawful measures to settle personal disputes, disregarding the law and public safety. The situation calls for a stronger response from authorities to prevent further violence in the political arena.
