At the 2024 Zhuhai Airshow, China presented a range of cutting-edge military technology, reaffirming its growing strength in defense and its ambition to be a global leader in military innovation. The biennial event, which attracts industry leaders and military experts from around the world, was a key platform for China to display new advancements in weapons, aircraft, and naval systems.

Among the highlights was the J35-A Stealth Fighter, China's second stealth fighter after the J-20. The J35-A is equipped with two engines, unlike the single-engine US F-35, and is capable of performing both air combat and precision strikes on ground and maritime targets. A twin navy variant is also expected to be unveiled soon.

Another standout feature was the HQ-19 Anti-Ballistic Missile System, a next-generation surface-to-air missile system designed to intercept ballistic missiles in space and track hypersonic glide vehicles. This system is mounted on an 8x8 high-mobility vehicle, utilizing a "cold launch" mechanism for greater efficiency.

The Jetank Drone Mothership also drew attention, a massive UAV that can carry up to six tons of payload and deploy smaller drones onto the battlefield. Its jet-powered design features a wingspan of 25 meters and a maximum takeoff weight of 16 tons, making it a versatile air asset similar to an airborne aircraft carrier.

The Orca Stealth Drone Ship was another highlight, a 500-ton unmanned surface combat vessel designed for high-speed operations and radar resistance. Its trimaran structure ensures stability in rough seas, and it is equipped with phased-array radars, vertical launch systems, and multiple missile types for tasks ranging from fire strikes to anti-submarine operations.

Additionally, the PL-15E Air-to-Air Missile was showcased, a long-range missile with a range of about 200 km and capable of reaching speeds over five times the speed of sound. This missile is seen as a competitor to the US AIM-120 missile.

Russia’s Su-57 Stealth Fighter, the most advanced fighter jet from Russia, made its debut at the Zhuhai Airshow, symbolizing the growing military cooperation between China and Russia. Contracts were signed for its export to other nations, further strengthening ties between the two countries.

The airshow attracted nearly 600,000 visitors and secured more than 280 billion yuan in global orders, signaling China's growing influence in the global defense sector and its ambitions in military technology.
