Prithvi Shaw, the former U-19 World Cup-winning captain, recently shared the valuable advice he received from cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar: "Discipline beats talent." Shaw, 25, had a difficult start to the week when he went unsold at the IPL mega auction despite a base price of Rs 75 lakh. Once seen as one of India’s brightest cricketing talents after his century on Test debut, Shaw now finds himself at a critical juncture in his career.

His failure to attract interest at the auction is a stark contrast to his U-19 teammates, like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, who secured massive IPL contracts. This rejection raises doubts about Shaw's ability to fulfill his potential. Even high-profile figures like Ricky Ponting, who has mentored Shaw, have expressed frustration with his inability to deliver consistently.

Shaw's career trajectory is beginning to resemble that of Vinod Kambli, another cricketer who faced early promise followed by a sharp decline. However, unlike Kambli in the 90s, Shaw has more resources and support to turn his career around. Shaw needs to prioritize discipline, improve his fitness, and focus on scoring runs to make the most of his immense talent.

An old video of Shaw also resurfaced, where he addressed trolls who criticized him for enjoying his personal life, especially after his 25th birthday celebrations. Shaw defended his right to take a break, stating that while trolling can sometimes hurt, it shouldn’t misrepresent his actions when he isn't doing anything wrong. Shaw’s ability to overcome these distractions and focus on his career will determine whether his story becomes one of triumph or missed potential.
