Parth Samthaan’s stellar performances in "Kaisi Hai Yaariaan" and "Kasautii Zindagi Kay" garnered him a massive fan following. His charming persona made him the poster boy of romance on television. At the height of his TV career, Parth decided to pursue his dream of acting in movies. With two upcoming projects, "Hamaare Barah" and "Ghudchadi," where he will share the screen with Raveena Tandon and Sanjay Dutt, Parth opens up to Filmfare about his journey into films, the challenges he faced, and why television remains his biggest blessing. Here are some excerpts from the conversation:
How intimidating was it to share the screen with Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon?
I’ve been fortunate enough to share the screen with them. When I started shooting, I could hardly believe it. Sanjay Dutt plays my father in "Ghudchadi," and Raveena Tandon is his love interest. It was quite a tricky situation for me. The director warned me to be well-prepared because I wouldn’t get retakes. Dialogue scenes with Sanjay Sir were intimidating, but he turned out to be one of the easiest and finest actors to work with. Shooting with Raveena ma'am was also fun. She watched some of my takes and told me I had done a good job.
How did "Ghudchadi" come your way?
I had no idea about this film initially. I was on holiday in Goa, having taken a break from television after "Kasautii Zindagi Kay." I got a call for a meeting with the director, who had seen my music video, "Pehle Pyaar Ka Pehla Gham," with Khushali Kumar. They liked the pair and wanted to see if I fit the character. I met with the director, and we discussed the role. Despite some directors' reluctance to work with TV actors, this director was confident in me and took my audition. Playing a Delhi guy as a Maharashtrian boy from Pune was a challenge, but that’s how I landed the role.
What made you decide to transition from television to films?
I was really happy doing "Kasautii Zindagi Kay" and was deeply involved in it. The show was successful for all of us, but as a TV actor, there comes a point where your character feels saturated and repetitive. There was no creativity or growth left for me, so it became risky and important to break away and explore new opportunities. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do web series or films, but I knew I didn’t want to do television anymore due to its demanding nature and commitment. I decided to focus on films and spent the last few years attending various workshops and learning new things. I’m loving every bit of this new journey.
Who has been your all-time crush in Bollywood?
Crushes change over time, but I’ve always thought that, since I’m tall, I should be with someone tall too, for a good-looking pair. Initially, I had a crush on Sushmita Sen, then Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Priyanka Chopra for the longest time. Katrina Kaif was my longest crush. Recently, I’ve been following a lot of Kriti Sanon’s work. She’s incredibly pretty and talented, and I would love to work with her someday.
