Grammy 66: Zakir Hussain, Shankar Mahadevan and Ganesh Rajagopalan’s Shakti Band make India proud

India stood tall at the 66th Grammy Awards event in Los Angeles last night. Zakir Hussain and Shankar Mahadevan’s music label, Shakti Band made the nation proud by being the recipients of two Grammy Awards. 

Zakir Hussain won the Best Global Music Performance award for his work in ‘Pashto’ musical. Shankar Mahadevan was accorded the Best Global Music Album for his work 'This Moment'.

Shankar thanked the Indian community for their efforts which helped him reach this stage and he dedicated the award to his wife. "Every single piece of my work is dedicated to my wife, and so it this award. Thanks tot the boys. India, we are proud of you." 

AR Rahman was also in attendance for the event and he proudly posed to the camera along with the rest of the winners and later tweeted out the picture with the caption "It’s raining #GRAMMYs  for India 🇮🇳 Congrats Grammy winners Ustad Zakir Hussain(3 Grammys), Shankar Mahadevan  (1st Grammy) and Selva Ganesh (1st Grammy).

Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the efforts of the Indian music community as he tweeted "Your exceptional talent and dedication to music have won hearts worldwide. India is proud! These achievements are a testament to the hardwork you keep putting in. It will also inspire the new generation of artists to dream big and excel in music."
