In a recent interview with Nikhil Kamath on his YouTube channel, Ranbir Kapoor candidly discussed his complicated relationship with his late father, Rishi Kapoor. Despite their privileged upbringing, Ranbir revealed there was always a distance between him and his father.

Reflecting on his childhood, Ranbir recalled sitting on the staircase of their bungalow, listening to his parents argue. "My parents went through a lot of fights. We lived in a bungalow, so I have spent most of my childhood on the staircases, hearing them fight. I was always scared and on the edge," he shared. Ranbir admitted he was scared of his father and never even saw the color of his eyes. He also mentioned that Rishi Kapoor took away his car when he returned to India to keep him grounded.

Ranbir described his father as a short-tempered but good man. "He was somebody who loved his family, work, food, and alcohol. He was a very open person. He could speak up his mind," he said. However, Rishi Kapoor's volatile temperament always scared him. "He never shouted at us, never raised his hand at us, but just because his temperament was so volatile, it always scared me," the 'Animal' actor explained.

Ranbir also shared that his parents eventually worked through their differences when Rishi was diagnosed with cancer. During this time, he witnessed his mother's selfless care for his father.

He believes that the men of his father's generation were afraid of vulnerability and seldom expressed their love openly. "I think that generation of men are scared of vulnerability. He never even expressed his love to me. He could never hold my hand. He did hug me, but it had more of a pat than a real hug. Maybe I am blaming his generation, but I don’t know. He was very distant. I knew he loved me a lot and cared for me a lot, but there was a distance," said Ranbir.

In the same interview, Ranbir also spoke about his wife, Alia Bhatt, and how she has changed for him. "She changed more for me than I have changed for her. I am acknowledging it but I should do something about it, I should change a bit," he admitted.

Describing Alia as his best friend, the 'Brahmastra' actor shared, "Watching movies together, laughing, chatting...that’s what romance is. I am lucky to have married someone who I am extremely close to as a friend. We can really chat, laugh, bit*h like she is my best friend. I got really lucky with that. Alia is a wonderful person. She’s very colorful. She is 11 years younger than me. It is very funny," he added.
