Kangana Ranaut, both the star and director of the film "Emergency," was set to release the film on September 6, exploring the period of the Indian political emergency under Indira Gandhi’s rule. However, the film's release has encountered significant obstacles. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has yet to clear the film, causing an indefinite delay. Adding to the complications, Sikh organizations across the country have raised concerns about the film's portrayal of their community, with some vowing to block its release.

The controversy erupted following the release of the film’s trailer on August 14. The trailer features a depiction of Sikh separatist leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, which has drawn criticism for allegedly misrepresenting historical facts. Critics argue that the trailer inaccurately portrays Bhindranwale as promising electoral support to the Congress party in exchange for advocating a separate Sikh state. This portrayal has been deemed offensive by various Sikh groups, particularly in cities like Hyderabad, where protests have been organized.

Kangana Ranaut has expressed her frustration over the situation, taking to social media to accuse the authorities of imposing an "emergency" on her film. She has announced her intention to pursue legal avenues to resolve the issue. As the film’s release remains in limbo, it highlights the complex interplay between artistic expression and political sensitivities in contemporary India.
