On Wednesday, a tragic incident occurred outside a theatre in Hyderabad during the premiere of the highly anticipated film "Pushpa 2: The Rule," starring Allu Arjun. The stampede that ensued led to the death of a 35-year-old woman, while her nine-year-old son was hospitalized for asphyxiation. According to the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, there was no prior notification from either the theatre management or the actor’s team about the actor’s arrival at the venue. Allu Arjun, along with music director Devi Sri Prasad, arrived at the Sandhya Theatre at around 9:30 PM, sparking chaos as hundreds of fans gathered to catch a glimpse of the star.
The crowd surged, and security personnel struggled to control the situation, worsening the chaos. As a result, the woman and her son became trapped, with the woman succumbing to asphyxiation despite CPR efforts by police personnel. The police have filed a case under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code following a complaint from the woman's family, who has demanded accountability from both the theatre management and Allu Arjun. The police have vowed to take stringent action against those responsible for the tragedy.
The incident has raised questions about crowd control and public safety, with many calling for better preparations at such high-profile events. The family of the deceased woman has also called for support from Allu Arjun. At the time of reporting, neither the actor nor the theatre management had issued a statement regarding the incident.
