Sai Dharam Tej tried his hand at content-driven films with his latest theatrical outing, Virupaksha which was released in theaters today. Let's see what the film has to offer in terms of story, screenplay, and actors performances.

Story: Mysterious deaths occur in a rural village in the remote areas of Andhra Pradesh, due to an unknown person's occult practices. The whole town is afraid of the recent developments, and the problems continue as they search for the one responsible for these deaths. This is when Sai Dharam Tej enters and he is the supposed savior. Is he the man for the job?

How did the actors perform?

Sai has delivered a spotless performance in a seemingly complex role. He is a fine fit for this role. This is the first real time he has experimented around with his scripts and it has paid off. Samyuktha Menon gets a meaty role and she delivers to the best of her capabilities. The rest of the supporting cast do their job to a fine extent.

What about the technical finesse?

The director Karthik pens an interesting mystical thriller subject and narrates it with good grip. Sukumar's screenplay is on point from start to en. The pacy screenplay works like a charm for this film. The BGM and cinematography are of elite quality.

Analysis:

Virupaksha is a mystical action thriller set in a remote village in Andhra Pradesh. There are several unaccounted mysterious deaths in the area that cause panic amongst the common public. Sai plays the savior. How does he do this extremely challenging job is the remaining story.

The opening half is mildly bogged down due to the poorly written and presented romantic thread between the lead pair. But the suspense and mystery elements in the story just about manage to keep the audience invested.

The latter half is much more convincing and it does the job for the film. The screenplay is racy without any deviations and there is a strong emotional core that has been paired with mystery and suspense.

A good climax rounds off the whole film as it ends the mystical action drama on a high. The suspense reveal block in the closing portion works effectively in creating a good overall watching experience.

Verdict: Virupaksha is a decent mystical actioner that has enough things going its way to make for an engaging watch this weekend. Thriller lovers can certainly give it a try.

Rating: 2.75/5
