2018 is a Malayalam language original survival thriller that is setting the Mallu box office on fire. The film was dubbed in Telugu and it released today. Here's our review of the film.

Story: People from all walks of life face catastrophic consequences during devastating floods in Kerala back in 2018. The people of Kerala work together to survive the calamity.

How did the actors perform?

The film has a host of talented actors including Tovino Thomasn, Vineeth Srinivasan, and others in the lead roles. They all perform very well to elevate the narrative and bring the story to life.

What about the technical finesse?

The film is backed by excellent making values and particularly so by the technical aspects like the background score and the visuals. The CGI work for the flood sequences are also executed very well.

Analysis:

Making a survival thriller with such a big cast featuring several noted faces doesn't happen very often. It is a challenge in itself as presenting so many crucial characters at a stretch is a tough task. The director does a fine job at it as he extracts the very best of his lead actors.

Tovino Thomas plays the central role and he shines. He is ably supported by the rest of the cast as well.

The sequences pertaining to the horrifying floods that affected the lives of thousands of Kerala people are presented in a heart touching manner. We go through an emotional rollercoaster as the impact of the Kerala floods unfolds on screen.

The climax portion is an emotionally engulfing one as we see the after effects of the natural calamity and how it left numerous people homeless, orphaned, and more.

The emotional connect has been maintained through the course of the film and that works very much in its favour.

Verdict: 2018 is a gripping survival thriller that works pretty well for its emotionally engulfing narrative. There are a few lags here and there but the climax portion rounds it all off with an emotional ending.

Rating: 3/5
