Doubts were raised about Megastar Chiranjeevi working with out-of-form director Meher Ramesh for Bholaa Shankar right from the day the project was announced. Well, the film was released in theaters today, and let us see how Meher handled the mighty opportunity of directing Chiranjeevi.
Story: A ferocious Shankar (Chiranjeevi) takes on a criminal gang that harmed his sister(Keerthy Suresh). He ends many goons and rowdies who stand in his way as he seeks revenge for what happened to his sister.
How did the actors perform?
Chiranjeevi is the main man and he delivers a towering performance. Although his presence in the first half is limited, he makes up in the latter half and gives a fiery performance. Keerthy Suresh is Chiru's sister and she has the right looks. Tamannaah is glamorous.
What about the technical finesse?
The director Meher Ramesh sets out to remake the Tamil version of Vedhalam, which in itself has very little novelty with regard to the story and narration. The music by Mahati Sagar is alright. The camera work is good and so are the production values.
Analysis:
Bholaa Shankar is essentially a revenge story featuring a brother and a sister. This a tried and tested plot. The mafia backdrop doesn't add much value to the film either. Meher Ramhes has loaded the film with cringe comedy.
Chiru is sparingly seen in the first half and that is a big no-no. He tries ot salvage this crige film with his performance but the liability of the director's narration is such that even Chiru cant save it.
The comedy part doesn't have any freshness and it just keeps going on and on like a headless chicken. The entire story is predictable for those who haven't watched the original.
Cringe comedy scenes like recreating Kushi nadumu scene have come out horribly on screen. The ending portion is a slug fest.
Verdict:
Bholaa Shankar isn't the kind of film one would be expecting from Chiru after delivering a blockbuster like Waltair Veerayya. This film is outdated in every aspect and makes for a tiring watch.
