Crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun fulfilled his unusual promise by eating the $6.2 million banana artwork titled "Comedian," created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. The artwork, which features a banana duct-taped to a wall, was sold at a Sotheby's auction in New York, with Sun being one of seven bidders.

At a high-end hotel in Hong Kong, Sun took a bite of the banana in front of a crowd of journalists and influencers. He described the fruit as "much better than other bananas" after tasting it. Sun had previously promised that if he won the bid, he would eat the banana, considering it a part of the artwork's history. The debut of "Comedian" at the 2019 Art Basel in Miami sparked controversy, with some questioning whether it should be considered art.

In his speech, Sun compared "Comedian" to NFT art and decentralized blockchain technology, drawing parallels between conceptual art’s reliance on intellectual property and the digital nature of cryptocurrency. Sun admitted feeling "disbelief" when he won the auction but quickly realized the potential significance of the artwork, deciding to take the bold step of eating it at the press conference to make it a part of the story.
