On Sunday, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held a crucial meeting with a high-level delegation from Johns Hopkins University (JHU), led by JHU President Ronald J. Daniels. The primary topic of discussion was the possibility of setting up an offshore campus of JHU in India, which would help further strengthen academic and research ties between India and the United States.

The meeting also emphasized India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages international partnerships and the integration of global institutions into India’s educational framework. The delegation included members from the Gupta-Klinsky India Institute (GKII) at JHU, an institute designed to foster collaboration in research, education, policy, and practice between India and JHU.

Key points of discussion included the establishment of dual degree programs, two-way mobility for students and faculty, and joint research initiatives in cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and advanced technologies. Minister Pradhan highlighted the importance of these initiatives in further positioning India as a global education hub and enhancing its relationship with the U.S. in the field of higher education.

The JHU delegation’s multi-city tour of India, which includes visits to several universities, aims to explore more avenues for collaboration, signaling a promising future for India-U.S. academic partnerships.
