The Times of India Congress' Puri LS pick cites lack of party funds for polls, quits race

Two days before the deadline for filing nominations, Congress' pick for Puri Lok Sabha seat, Sucharita Mohanty, Saturday pulled out of the electoral race, alleging lack of funds from the cash-strapped party for her campaigning. Sucharita, who had unsuccessfully contested the Puri seat in 2014, said she had conveyed her decision to the party brass. The constituency will go to polls on May 25, and the last date for submission of nominations is Monday. Sucharita had not filed her nomination papers yet.

A Delhi court has transferred a money-laundering case relating to Bhushan Steel from one judge to another after an accused in the case expressed lack of confidence in the judge as one of the accused claimed to have overheard him saying "ED matters mein kaun si bail hoti hai?" Principal district judge Anju Bajaj Chandna of Rouse Avenue court observed that "fairness and equality are hallmarks of criminal justice system" where judges are obliged to decide cases before them with impartiality, integrity, and by ensuring equality of treatment. In doing so, judges are upholding the rule of law, she said.
