The Times of India World Bank, Pak teams to visit J&K projects

Along with a Pakistan delegation expected early next week, India will also host a team of World Bank experts for talks on the hydroelectric power projects in J&K that Islamabad has objected to. The talks will happen under the provisions of the World Bank-backed 1960 Indus Waters Treaty which provides a framework for irrigation and hydropower development, allocating the western rivers (Indus, Jhelum, Chenab) to Pakistan and the eastern rivers (Ravi, Beas, Sutlej) to India.

Finding "serious lapses" in the judgment of two Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) members in the Porsche crash case, Maharashtra women and child development commissioner Prashant Narnaware Saturday issued a show-cause notice against them. A five-member committee, constituted by the women and child welfare department, investigated the overall conduct of the two state-appointed members and checked if norms were followed in the case. The two members have four days to respond to the notice.

In a detailed order rejecting the discharge pleas of three doctors accused of abetting the 2019 suicide of their junior, Dr Payal Tadvi, by harassing her over her caste, a special court observed that had they filed the pleas only to prolong trial. The court said there is prima-facie sufficient material on their participation and specific role in regard to accusations against them, and they certainly do not deserve to be discharged from the crime levelled against them.

Former Karnataka CM and BJP veteran BS Yediyurappa said he will appear before CID on June 17 for an inquiry, following his return to Bengaluru Saturday. His statement came a day after Karnataka HC stayed a non-bailable warrant against him, in connection with a Pocso case. "I had gone to Delhi for a pre-scheduled event. I had informed in advance that I will appear for an inquiry on June 17. HC has given an order, restraining CID (from arresting). I'm appearing for an inquiry Monday," Yediyurappa said.

The Times of India K’taka’s Cong govt raises fuel prices by Rs3 litre, BJP fumes

Barely a fortnight since Lok Sabha poll results, Karnataka's Congress govt Saturday increased the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 3 with immediate effect through a revision in retail taxes. BJP denounced the hike as "an act of revenge" on the people who had given the party and ally JD(S) 19 of the state's 28 Lok Sabha seats. A litre of petrol will now cost Rs 102.85 and diesel Rs 88.93 per litre, according to petroleum dealers in Bengaluru.
