The Times of India K’taka’s Cong govt raises fuel prices by Rs3 litre, BJP fumes

Barely a fortnight since Lok Sabha poll results, Karnataka's Congress govt Saturday increased the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 3 with immediate effect through a revision in retail taxes. BJP denounced the hike as "an act of revenge" on the people who had given the party and ally JD(S) 19 of the state's 28 Lok Sabha seats. A litre of petrol will now cost Rs 102.85 and diesel Rs 88.93 per litre, according to petroleum dealers in Bengaluru.

In one of the worst accidents this summer in Uttarakhand, 14 people died and 12 others were injured when a vehicle in which they were travelling from Delhi-NCR fell into a 200m gorge near the Alaknanda river in Raitoli area of Rudraprayag district on Saturday. Officials said 10 persons died on the spot while two others, out of the nine who were admitted to Rudraprayag district hospital, succumbed to injuries.
