Dance Scholar, Educator, Performer and Choreographer
I was introduced to Indian classical dance and music at the age of five. During the following years I have received extensive training in Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, Ottanthulal and Carnatic Music. My passion to delve deep into the technique and history of Indian classical dance has led me to pursue a PhD in Dance at Texas Woman’s University. My research focuses on the movement vocabulary of Indian classical dance after the British colonial era.
I consider Dance as a discipline, rooted in the society and I am keen to explore its affinity to other disciplines including sociology, anthropology, history, literature and other allied subjects.
My passion for dance, music and teaching has paved the path to the formation of Upasana Kalakendra in 2008. At Upasana Kalakendra we provide systematic and structured training in Indian classical art forms along with nurturing a lifelong passion for these art forms
I welcome you to visit Upasana Kalakendra's full fledged dance studio's in Katy or Missouri City/ Sugarland (Riverstone) or our Satellite location in Spring Cypress.
