We strive to do the best that we can here at Swagat. Being the very first of all restaurants in 1995, our family were the original ones to start the Indian Restaurant business here in the Kansas City Area. We've been the base recipe for many of the restaurants in the Kansas City area, including India Palace, Swagat and a few others. The Choong families' very first restaurant was on 87th St, in Overland Park. India Palace, which is still open to this day. Originally coming from the Bosten area, the family also has establishments in areas of Boston. Be sure to ask any questions you may have next time your in! The manager/owner of Swagat, Gurdev Choong, began in the culinary business with his brothers and friends over 30 years ago, in Boston. The brothers prepared deeply flavored, rich-tasting Indian cuisine that soon became a hit with natives of India and Bostonians alike.



After a few years, Gurdev and his brothers, seeking a good place to raise their families, moved to Overland Park, Kansas. At first, they were unsure whether their flavorful, authentic Indian cuisine would suit Midwestern tastes. But with hard work, good food, and a strong commitment to excellence, the brothers won over the public. With faith and optimism, Gurdev opened his own restaurant in Zona Rosa and named it "Swagat," which respectfully, means "Welcome."



All of Gurdev's culinary learning over the decades has come together to create the total "Swagat" experience. It's all about a warm welcome, savory aromas, dazzling décor, and an exquisitely relaxing ambiance--and of course, a daily lunch buffet
