BR Naidu, the newly appointed Chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), has taken an unexpected and refreshing approach to his new role. Traditionally, TTD chairmen have been known to enjoy a range of perks, including TTD-sponsored vehicles, lavish accommodations at Tirumala, and other elite privileges. However, BR Naidu has chosen to forgo these benefits and adopt a more modest and transparent approach to leadership.

During his inaugural visit to Tirumala, BR Naidu shocked many by using his own car for travel and personally covering the costs of his accommodation at the holy shrine. In an even more surprising move, he also paid for the stay and food bills of family members and friends who accompanied him on the trip. This is a stark contrast to the previous chairmen, particularly during the YCP tenure, who were often criticized for overindulging in the luxuries that came with the office.

Naidu’s decision is being hailed as a much-needed change, reflecting his commitment to reform and simplicity. It sets a new precedent for future chairpersons of TTD, encouraging transparency and fiscal responsibility. In a time when the TTD is under scrutiny for its spending practices, BR Naidu’s actions provide a much-needed example of leadership focused on service rather than personal gain.

This move could signal the beginning of a larger reform within TTD, with the focus shifting back to its spiritual and administrative responsibilities rather than on the material privileges associated with its leadership. Naidu’s approach also resonates with the broader public demand for more accountable governance in temple institutions, especially those managing significant resources and public trust.
