The United States imposed sanctions on four Pakistani entities on Wednesday, including the National Development Complex (NDC), a key state-owned aerospace and defense agency responsible for Pakistan's ballistic missile program. The sanctions, announced by US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, target entities involved in the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems, specifically missiles. These sanctions freeze US property linked to the targeted companies and prohibit Americans from engaging in business with them.

The sanctioned entities are the NDC, Akhtar and Sons Private Limited, Affiliates International, and Rockside Enterprise. These firms, based primarily in Karachi and Islamabad, have allegedly contributed to Pakistan's missile development efforts, particularly its long-range missile capabilities. The NDC has been linked to the development of ballistic missiles, including the Shaheen-series missiles. The other companies are accused of supplying equipment and materials to further Pakistan's missile program.

The US sanctions come as part of Washington's ongoing efforts to curb the spread of weapons of mass destruction. Pakistan's nuclear and missile programs have raised concerns globally, as Pakistan is not a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Islamabad has consistently pursued its missile and nuclear programs despite facing international sanctions, with significant support from China.

In response to the US sanctions, Pakistan's foreign ministry condemned the move as "unfortunate and biased," warning that such actions could destabilize the region and exacerbate military imbalances. Pakistan's missile program, including its nuclear-capable Shaheen missiles, continues to develop despite international opposition, and analysts suggest that the US sanctions are unlikely to halt Pakistan's progress in this area.
