YSR Congress has witnessed what could be considered the worst possible public mandate after having been in power for 5 years. The party couldn't even secure 10% of the seats that it won in 2019(151) as it got restricted to just 11 seats in this year's election. The party even lost its fortress of Rayalaseema as it won 7/52 seats here as compared to 49/52 in 2019.
Despite the meltdown of YCP, Jagan's visit to Kadapa today got a fairly good response as his party cadres and YS supporters turned up in big numbers to welcome their leader.
After Kadapa delivered 3/10 seats for YCP in the recent election, doubts were raised about Jagan's strength in this conventional YS family belt. Amidst the meltdown, Jagan's 5-day trip to Puliendula, possibly to assess the disaster show in Seema, the YCP head was welcomed by decent-sized crowds. This must be some sort of respite to Jagan.
If Jagan is to stand any chance of keeping YSR Congress relevant in the 2029 election regaining the Seema belt is of quintessential importance. Jagan appears to be aiming at the same, considering his elongated trip to Pulivendula starting today.
