HYDRAA, a new initiative spearheaded by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has recently captured significant media attention. The department's mission is to tackle illegal constructions encroaching on lakes, with a firm stance that no individual, regardless of influence, will be spared. Ranganath, the chief of HYDRAA, has made it clear that the department is committed to enforcing these regulations rigorously, demonstrated by the recent demolition of Akkineni Nagarjuna’s N-Convention.
The aggressive approach of HYDRAA has stirred unease among politicians and business figures, leading to considerable pressure on Revanth Reddy. In a recent press interaction at the secretariat, Reddy admitted feeling the weight of this initiative but underscored that prioritizing public interest is crucial. He emphasized that even if the process is challenging, it is necessary for the greater good, ensuring that illegal constructions are dismantled regardless of their nature or the status of their owners.
Addressing specific concerns, Revanth Reddy also condemned the construction of educational institutions on encroached land, emphasizing that such practices will not be tolerated. He humorously remarked that allowing such encroachments could lead to absurd scenarios like floating colleges on Tank Bund. Additionally, Reddy proposed that former Irrigation Minister Harish Rao should head a fact-finding committee to investigate encroachments on lakes, further demonstrating his commitment to addressing and rectifying these issues comprehensively.
