Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has made it clear that his party will entertain defections only if YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) members resign from their current positions before joining TDP. This stance comes amid rumors of potential mass resignations from YSRCP, including some prominent leaders. Naidu’s statement aims to ensure that defections are handled with proper procedural adherence and integrity.

One notable figure at the center of this controversy is MLC Pothula Sunitha, who recently resigned from YSRCP and is reportedly seeking to join TDP. Sunitha’s political journey has been marked by several shifts; she started her career with TDP, joined YSRCP in 2020, and served as an MLC and head of the YSRCP state women’s wing. Her recent departure from YSRCP follows her replacement by Varudu Kalyani. Sunitha's past remarks, including controversial comments about Naidu’s family and other political figures, have drawn significant backlash and raised questions about her credibility and motives.

As Sunitha seeks to join TDP, internal dissent has surfaced within the party, with members opposing the inclusion of someone with a history of controversial and derogatory remarks. Her frequent party changes and past behavior have led to criticism of her political integrity. If Naidu decides against welcoming Sunitha into TDP, her next move remains uncertain, leaving many to speculate about her future in Andhra Pradesh politics.
