In line with the Election Commission's mandate requiring candidates to disclose their campaign expenditures, the Congress party has submitted detailed fiscal records for the recent Lok Sabha elections. Among the figures that have drawn attention is the amount Rahul Gandhi reportedly spent during his campaign. According to Congress's submission, Gandhi spent Rs 70 lakh each in Wayanad and Raebareli, totaling Rs 1.4 crore across these two constituencies. This figure seems surprisingly modest given the scale of the electoral campaign this year.

Interestingly, Rahul Gandhi's expenditure was not the highest within the Congress party. Vikramaditya Singh, who ran for election from Mandi constituency, spent Rs 87 lakh but unfortunately lost to BJP’s Kangana Ranaut. In contrast, despite Gandhi's relatively low reported spending, he achieved impressive victories, winning Wayanad by a margin of over 3,64,000 votes and Raebareli by over 3,90,000 votes.

For context, the permissible limit for election spending is Rs 95 lakh for an MP and Rs 40 lakh for an MLA. The low spending reported by Gandhi, paired with his significant electoral victories, underscores a strategic and potentially effective campaign approach, contrasting sharply with the higher expenditures of other candidates who did not secure similar results.
