Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are currently neck-and-neck in the polls, but Harris is outperforming Biden’s numbers from earlier in the race. The presidential contest has shifted significantly since President Joe Biden exited the race in July. While Trump made gains against his original Democratic opponent, he is now trailing Harris in the latest national and state polls leading up to the 2024 election.

According to polls released ahead of Labor Day weekend, Vice President Harris holds a slight lead over Trump in key battleground states, with just two months remaining until Election Day. Reports indicate that Harris is performing better than Biden did, consistently leading Trump within the margin of error in nearly every national survey.

Trump remains steady at around 47% in national polls, according to surveys from sources like The Wall Street Journal, EPIC-MRA in Michigan, and Bloomberg/Morning Consult in Georgia and Michigan. However, the polls have shifted in Harris's favor since Biden dropped out, although it's uncertain whether her narrow lead will hold.

In swing states, Harris has edged out Trump within the margin of error in Georgia (50%), Michigan (49%), Nevada (50%), and Pennsylvania (51%), and she is ahead outside the margin of error in Wisconsin (53%). They are tied in Arizona and North Carolina, which is a significant change from Biden's earlier performance, where he struggled in these states.

Before Harris took over as the Democratic candidate, Biden was trailing Trump, especially in swing states. Now, polls from The Wall Street Journal, Quinnipiac, and Suffolk/USA Today show Harris leading with 48%, 49%, and 48%, respectively, while Trump lags slightly behind at 47%, 48%, and 43% in those same polls.
