In a significant setback for Prithvi Shaw's cricketing career, the opening batter has been excluded from Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad. While the team management has not officially disclosed the reasons for his omission, reports suggest that concerns over his attitude towards fitness and discipline have led to this decision.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) selection committee, which includes members such as Sanjay Patil, Ravi Thaker, and Jeetendra Thackeray, has reportedly opted to leave Shaw out of at least one Ranji Trophy match. According to a report from Cricbuzz, Shaw's ongoing issues with discipline have become a major concern for the Maharashtra Cricket Association.

Shaw has faced criticism for arriving late to net sessions and for his lackadaisical approach to practice. Reports indicate that he is perceived as overweight, reflecting a disregard for the professional standards expected of athletes. In contrast, veteran players like Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, and captain Ajinkya Rahane consistently demonstrate commitment to training, making Shaw's irregular attendance all the more noticeable.

The decision to drop Shaw was not solely made by the selectors; both the captain and coach reportedly supported the move. This action is intended to send a message about the importance of discipline and dedication in the sport.

Since making his Test debut for India against the West Indies in 2018, Shaw's career has struggled due to various off-field issues. His performance in the two Ranji games this season has also been lackluster, with scores of 7 and 12 against Baroda, and 1 and 39 not out against Maharashtra.

As a talented batter aiming for a return to the Indian national team, Shaw's recent decisions are unlikely to bolster his case for selection.
