Indian cricket stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have seen a significant drop in the latest ICC Test batting rankings following India's heavy 10-wicket loss to Australia in the Adelaide pink-ball Test. Kohli dropped six spots, now sitting at No. 20, while Rohit fell out of the top 30, currently ranking 31st after losing five places. Kohli, who had regained form with a century in the Perth Test, struggled in Adelaide, scoring just 7 and 11. Similarly, Rohit, who had been ranked No. 6, could only manage a score of 9 in both innings of the Adelaide Test.

On a more positive note, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant remain in the top 10, with Jaiswal at No. 4 and Pant at No. 9, despite dropping three spots. Shubman Gill is the next highest-ranked Indian at No. 17.

In major developments, England's Harry Brook has overtaken Joe Root to become the No.1 ranked Test batter in the world, marking a change at the top. Brook’s rise to the top comes after his eighth Test century against New Zealand in Wellington, where he edged Root by just one rating point. Brook now holds 898 rating points, while Root has 897. This marks the first time the 25-year-old Brook has claimed the top spot, and he joins Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar in the 34th spot for the highest-ever rating for Test batters.

Joe Root had been No. 1 since July and has held the top spot nine times throughout his career. His reign ended with Brook’s impressive rise in the rankings.
