Bahadur Singh Sagoo, a former shot put champion and Asian Games gold medallist, is set to be elected unopposed as the new president of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) during the organization's Annual General Meeting (AGM). He will replace Adille Sumariwalla, who has served as AFI president since 2012. Sagoo, a member of the outgoing AFI executive council and senior selection committee, is the lone candidate for the presidency after Anju Bobby George, the current senior vice president, opted out of the race. George will remain in her position for a second term.

In addition to Sagoo's election, the AGM will also see other appointments, including Sandeep Mehta as AFI Secretary, Jyotirmoyee Sikdar as Joint Secretary, and Stanely Jones as Treasurer. The elections for these posts are uncontested, continuing a trend from the 2020 AGM. Key figures like Sudha Singh, Rachita Mistry, and Priyanka Bhanot will join the executive committee, ensuring the involvement of notable athletes in the federation's future.

This transition of leadership comes after Sumariwalla's successful tenure, which saw major achievements like Neeraj Chopra’s historic Olympic gold and silver. The AGM will also be attended by an observer from World Athletics, underscoring the importance of this event for India’s athletics future.
