Bharti Airtel Ltd. has emerged as the leader in India’s telecom sector, gaining market share over the past 12 months following tariff hikes implemented earlier. According to the latest data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the country’s mobile sector saw a 14% year-on-year revenue growth, totaling Rs 2.69 lakh crore.

During this period, Bharti Airtel reported the highest revenue growth of 19%, while Vodafone Idea Ltd. and Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. experienced more modest growth, ranging from 2% to 14% year-on-year. Despite Jio holding the largest market share, Bharti Airtel was the only operator to gain market share in the second quarter.

The report reveals that the top three telecom operators—Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea—accounted for 95% of the sector’s revenue, with Jio leading at 41.6%. However, Jio’s revenue share dropped by 51 basis points, while Airtel gained the highest share increase at 86 basis points.

Bharti Airtel’s success is attributed to the continued impact of tariff hikes, which are proving most beneficial for the company. This growth trend could further shift the market share dynamics, with Airtel and Jio now controlling 80% of the sector’s total revenue.

Meanwhile, Reliance Jio saw a significant shift, registering a loss of 79.7 lakh subscribers in September. This represents a major shift in the sector's dynamics. Additionally, Vodafone Idea continues to struggle with subscriber losses, raising concerns about its future position.

The report also highlights a decrease in complaints against unregistered telemarketers, following TRAI's directive to halt promotional calls from unregistered senders. The reduction in spam complaints demonstrates a positive impact of regulatory measures.
