BEML Ltd. is working on an ambitious timeline to roll out India’s first indigenous bullet train by December 2026, as revealed by Chairman and Managing Director Shantanu Roy. The company has been tasked with designing and manufacturing the bullet trains for the highly anticipated Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.

This project marks a significant milestone in India's railway history, with BEML focusing on building two prototypes. Roy emphasized the importance of intellectual property remaining within the country, highlighting the learning curve this project presents.

In addition to the bullet train, BEML is expecting a significant increase in its order book for the second half of the financial year, having already received orders worth Rs 4,000 crore. The company is targeting further inflows of around Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 crore across its defence, mining, and rail & metro segments. Roy expects all segments to grow in revenue over the next three years, with rail and metro and defence contributing around 65% to the company’s top line.

On the financial side, BEML plans to fund its capital expenditure through debt, aiming to reduce its working capital by 30% this year. Roy also outlined the company’s strategy to improve margins to 16% in the next three years, with current projections to move from 11.97% in March 2024 to around 13% this year.

Despite these positive developments, BEML’s stock saw a decline of 3.6% on the NSE on Friday, trading at Rs 4,310 per share.
